Django01 0 Posted March 25, 2014 Hi, Despite the fact that I'm all new to camera systems, I want to install about 5 cameras at my house. I've bought 5 POE Hikvision cameras and want to use my pc as the server (blue iris as software). There is still one problem I cannot solve. How do I power the POE cameras? Do I use a switch or do I use POE injectors? I added a schema on how I want to install the cameras. Does it look ok? Thanks in advance for your help ! Securame 0 Posted March 28, 2014 I would recommend a POE switch. Less cables, less clutter...
milkisbad 0 Posted March 29, 2014 POE switch is best. Non-POE switch with Power adapter is cheapest. NVR with built-in POE is even easier. (Plug and Play), and don't have to leave PC on all day, but you have to run cameras all the way to the machine. Do you only have 5 cameras? then you can get a 4+1 POE switch then 1 POE injector...which will save you a bit over a full 8 port POE.
ericq 0 Posted March 29, 2014 definitely a poe switch... Make sure to use Cat6 Ethernet cabling and do not make a cable run longer then 330' You could use something like the following - D-Link DGS-1100-08P 8port gigabit poe switch for $157 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127513 there are other poe switches out there like a 10/100 fast ethernet for probably around $60 or more. Me, personally i'd use gigabit

Django01 0 Posted March 30, 2014 Yes, you are correct. Specifications say :" Power Consumption: Max. 5 W (Max. 7 W with IR cut filter on) " . If the power budget is 64W, wouldn't it then be good for 9 camera's ( 64/7) ? Thx, Herman
