WharfRat 0 Posted April 12, 2014 First, hello CCTV Forum. I was glad to find this resource while searching for answers to the myriad questions I have (but don't worry, I only ask for help if I reach a dead end researching a problem.) The Setup: I live in a 20 unit condo and we recently did a full security camera/DVR installation. It was done by a recommended contractor who installed a DW VMAX 16 Flex DVR with 15 analog cameras - most placed in the parking garage, the rest in the lobby/entryway/stairwell etc. Its connected behind a Cisco DPQ Docsis router supplied by Cablevision which supplies internet connectivity/remote access. The installation was completed about 3 weeks ago and there have been some problems almost from the start. The main problem: For the first few days almost everything worked properly, we (condo board) were able to access all cameras for either a live view or to search through captured events (motion) through the DW ACS software on pc's, or DW's apps on tablets and cell phones. The one thing we couldnt do is remote administration of the dvr, which, from my research, is something we should be able to do with this system, but since the system hub is located on site and easily accessible we just let it go. Now, however, we can no longer access any live feeds remotely through any device/pc but strangely we still have remote access through any device to view the recorded video. We've reached out to the contractor who installed it for help, but have received no response to emails or phone calls. Ive reached a dead end trying to figure out whats wrong and wanted to check with the pros to see if what Ive described makes sense and if its something that you've seen before. My best guess is that the DVR is working fine, but the port forwarding setup of the router has either reset somehow or wasn't setup correctly. Since I dont have admin access to the router, i cant find out whats going on inside and I also dont want to screw anything up. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. qrcctv 0 Posted April 15, 2014 Hi, You are right. There is most probably a problem with port forwarding. Maybe the DVR needs different ports opened for viewing live footage and viewing recorded footage. Are you sure you can access recorded footage? on the same ip address that you could watch live footage before?! Also maybe the contractor has not used Static IP address for the DVR. (Used DHCP instead, not recommended.) Also the router could have been reset which will erase all port forwarding and other data. Here is a small guide for port forwarding which I hope will help you to find a solution: http://http://portforward.com/
