bigc9731 0 Posted May 17, 2014 Hello, I am new to security system installs and a friend has asked me to try and install one he has. He previously had a dvr with BNC inputs (the ones that look like a coax cable) along with BNC cameras. The new dvr (Samsung SDE-4001) has 8 UTP inputs (CAT5 I guess). All of the BNC cables are at the dvr already and he wants to use the same cameras, as well as add some of the UTP ones that came with the dvr. Can I just use a simple balun on the dvr side for the 5 BNC cameras and connect them to the UTP input on the dvr? I am not sure if it will work like that, like I said, I am brand new to this and I want to make sure it will work before purchasing it. Thanks in advance. epcjay 0 Posted May 21, 2014 Without know the pin out of the UTP on the DVR, your basically taking a chance. There's a chance you are sending 12V via the wrong pin which would lead to a dead camera. I came across these. Pretty pricey if you ask me, but I believe this is what you need. http://www.ebay.com/itm/PTBNC-402C8-BNC-coax-To-RJ45-Adapter-for-Samsung-Systems-SDE-4001-SDE-5001-/270968348215
