wrytous 0 Posted May 22, 2014 I've been doing a 16 camera install for a large non-profit retail store; 4 analog outdoor dome cameras, 12 analog indoor dome cameras. I've installed a 16 ch power supply, and 16 ch DVR, and run Cat5e and passive baluns. I've got about half the cameras installed and working. So far, so good. But... I possessed no experience when starting the installation. I've been doing my level best to do things correctly, but I honestly have no idea if I'm doing them correctly. Instead of asking dozens of questions here, is there a "best practices" book / guide / manual I could reference? Are there courses to take? Where would I find out where/when those are held? Thanks for any help. -S. in VA
ssnapier 0 Posted May 23, 2014 BICSI is one of the certifying authorities for that type of work, you can check out their website. I would also look up structured cabling or cable installer standards, I am sure that will give you a ton of stuff to read up on. Try the same search on youtube too. wrytous 0 Posted May 23, 2014 Thanks for the tips. I'm looking into certification classes now. I just posted a new thread about a specific installation issue. Didn't want to camp on this thread, which can be closed now. -Sean
Alexbrown012 0 Posted August 23, 2014 Cat6 is mostly used in Structured cabling now-days. Due to use of copper in Cat6 it's reliable and fast as compared to ca5e.
Billy_ICU 0 Posted August 23, 2014 Search google.com for the following words exactly (copy/paste)... planning, design, installation and operation of cctv ...and you will find stuff like this... http://www.bsia.co.uk/app/images/publications/109-installation-cctv-systems.pdf
mgb 0 Posted August 23, 2014 Another place to look for more information are the websites for the manufacturers and suppliers. Also youtube can be a good source for some installation how tos.
