swaan 0 Posted May 25, 2014 I would like to install 8 cameras with the option to add another 4. I don't know what I need. The thing is, I really don't want a NVR/DVR because I have a great Synology NAS and a capable LAN. Maybe this is mission impossible, maybe not. I need the cameras to send atleast 720p motion to my NAS and offer live view to a guard with a desktop PC and to the boss on Android and iOS. The cameras I am looking are sub 100$ range. It's ok if I pay for client software but does it help me navigate data on the NAS? Are Dahua cams what I am looking for? Ubiquiti Aircam look nice but I think they can't save to NAS. Anything else in that price range? What else do I need? Cheers! Edit: Removing the price limitation, is it still something so uncommon? I just don't get it why would I need a NVR when most IP cameras have quite a bit processing power themselves. Within reason, no NVR will match a dedicated NAS with offsite backup. Am I wrong? tomartomau 0 Posted May 28, 2014 I am in the same situation. I have the Syn 214 Play and a home network (gigabit). I think for us POE is the way to go for the ip cameras. I have a data comms cabinet that has a 24 port patch panel and a TP Link router. I think I will get a 16 port managable switch and a separate POE switch say 8 ports. IT is hard for me to find a 24 port switch with 8 POE ports, so 2 different switches might be the go for me. Additionally, I will probably go for a 10/100 POE switch as this should be more than adequate for what I need. There are POE injectors that you can buy if it is only a couple of POE capable ports you need.
swaan 0 Posted June 2, 2014 I think this would be a great setup since: No single point of failure when clustered NAS and multihoming LAN Cameras can easily switch where to send data, one by one. No extra hardware besides cameras No one does this?
