richard951 0 Posted May 25, 2014 I am looking in purchase IP camera with IEEE 802.3af compliant camera. to get Power, I've got a POE injector like such: http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Quality-4-Port-POE-Power-Over-Ethernet-Injector-For-IP-Camera-EM-01-/380885515958?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58ae8bbeb6 Can IEEE 802.3af compliant camera operate with 12V feed from the POE injector? Or do I have to supply a 24V or 48V to the POE injector?
gb5102 0 Posted May 26, 2014 802.3af requires 48vdc. And I would not trust that piece of junk from ebay you linked to...(no offense) Suggestions: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PowerDsine-6001-PD-6001-AC-Mid-Span-Power-Injector-POE-Hub-Power-Over-Ethernet-/121287560614?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c3d4d4da6 http://www.ebay.com/itm/POWERDSINE-PD-7001G-SINGLE-GIGABIT-PoE-ADAPTOR-/251527717258?pt=US_Network_Switches&hash=item3a9038618a
buellwinkle 0 Posted May 26, 2014 Odds are, even if you have 1 camera now, you'll want to add more so you would be better served by getting a PoE switch. Look for one that is full power on all ports as cheaper ones tend to have power budgets that limit how many ports you can use. I use ZyXel on the lower end, about $70 for an 8 port switch (4 are PoE) and no power brick, plugs straight into an outlet.

Agreed, and Zyxel is good quality/reliable I've found
richard951 0 Posted June 3, 2014 I saw the same Ebay POE injector from Johnathan Oxer SuperhouseTV. With your advise, I decided to go with the POE switch. Thanks! However, I would like the POE Switch to be mounted on the camera pole next to three IP CAM. Can I use one Ethernet with 48VDC injector/slitter to power the switch from 50-75ft? I also created a new post with same question.
