disstressed 0 Posted January 25, 2006 hello chaps, newbee here after some tech info if you can help me!!!! i have installed a gv800 card works fine ,but the the customer wanted a ptz dome camera with some peremeter protection. i contacted my wholesaler who advised me to get a gv net card and a gv i/o boxed unit. i asked about compatability issues, no problem he said, the units will not conflict even though they are on the same rs422/285 coms port. so i can get the ptz to work, or the alarm inputs but not both. back to the wholesaler who then sold me a combo gvnet i/o card. guess what same problem the alarm input works but no data to the dome. he now advises all of the above connected through a gv hub ( its a usb device with 8 coimms ports on the unit). my question is this is there a software glitch that is stopping the data from passing through the gvnet i/o card, or is there a software patch available and is this guy taking the p**** ? any suggestions ???? Hi, they each need their own com port (PTZ & i/o box) to be able to communicate. Most pc's have only one com port so the gv hub enables this and gives you 4 com or rs 485 comms. These have to be assigned in setup and is really easy when you use the gv hub. You can fit an extra com port to the pc by using a pci card although you will still need 2 gv net cards to covert the com into rs485. Buy a hub and get a credit on your gv net
disstressed 0 Posted January 25, 2006 thanx for prompt reply. the dome is a multi protocol unit supplied by a comp. called ljd.its ok i have had it working on the system. it looks like i have to buy the hub as well.only with i knew this prior to quoting for the job- its cost an extra £450 due to my wholesaler not being genned up on the kit.!!! any ideas why the gvnet i/o doesn't like the rs 422/485 port???? cam2 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Ive just been down this road the gv net works fine with either a ptz or a i/o box, just not at the same time . the issue is the com port, only being one. If you have 2 com ports use two gv net cards, they are only £15 and the hub is £80, so wheres the £450 come from? can you provide a link to the ljd dome? rory 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Sounds more like 450 pounds for the Dome ..?
Aardie 0 Posted January 26, 2006 Just check on the Motherboard (Dig out the Manual) to see if there is a Serial or Com port header I had this issue with an asus board with only one com port on the IO panel at the back but did find that the board had a extra Com header, Usually near the last pci slot but u do need a serial patch cable which was in the motherboard box which does take up a pci slot, then you have to enable it in the Bios. As a consequence of this I always specify to my computer dealer for mboard's with 2 Com port's just in case. Regards Keith

If you have 2 com ports use two gv net cards, they are only £15 and the hub is £80, so wheres the £450 come from? can you provide a link to the ljd dome? the gvnet card was £35 plus vat,( x2) the gvnet i/o card £50 plus vat, the gv hub is £125 plus vat and all plus various carrage charge, and return visits included!!!! looks like my supplier is taking the p*** doesn't it? the dome is not a branded product but i don't think thats an issue as most of the units i've fitted over the last twenty years all have their own pitfalls most at a bigger price tag. rory 0 Posted January 29, 2006 The PTZ brand name makes a huge difference, if you were to use a GE Cyberdome with Controller, you would never use another OEM PTZ And yeap they last alot longer to.
