j4ymf 0 Posted June 9, 2014 Hello Im new to CCTV Im looking at a system on ebay with no HDD how do you install the software onto the hard drive, What format does the Hard drive need to be formatted to? jason
Numb-nuts 1 Posted June 9, 2014 You Don't. Its already embeded in the motherboard and cannot be changed or modified. The HDD is purely for storing recorded footage. The only time there is software on the HDD is when you have a PCI card based DVR and then it's installed onto the HDD. Again the software is fixed and you cannot add or modify it, it's what comes with the card...Thats All.

Not all of them do this however. Just check the HDD is supported by the DVR e.g usually the capacity but id its a 500GB, 1TB 2TB these capacities will work with most DVRS but check first. Numb-nuts 1 Posted June 10, 2014 What me spend £200 ? My wife wouldn't let me....! depending on what number of channels and how long you wanted to record (before overwriting starts) I think that you could probably get a very reasonable DVR for that budget. The more channels/ HDD space, the lower the spec you can afford basically. What is your budget for cameras? You need to get someone who knows everything about everything (and better than anyone else) to explain all the specs and then pour over the spec sheets. You get out exactly as much effort as you put in I'm afraid Take a look at QVIS and Hikvision, both good brands and good value for money IMHO. Buy from a dealer that will offer good after sales support, this might prove more difficult than choosing a DVR. Find a dealer that can speak to you in plain language and explain what you are getting and what the benefits to you will be. Best of luck
