You Don't. Its already embeded in the motherboard and cannot be changed or modified. The HDD is purely for storing recorded footage.

The only time there is software on the HDD is when you have a PCI card based DVR and then it's installed onto the HDD. Again the software is fixed and you cannot add or modify it, it's what comes with the card...Thats All.

That's a standalone ..... Just install hard drive and format on dvr.

Link says WITH HD I would look at a better system than your eBay link

You don't need to worry about which format (frankly I'm not sure) the DVR will format the drive for you correctly

In Most you just manually select format in the HDD menu but there are now more often put in a drive that if the DVR

does not see a formatted disc or a not recognised format for the DVR and it will format automatically upon startup.

Not all of them do this however. Just check the HDD is supported by the DVR e.g usually the capacity but id its a

500GB, 1TB 2TB these capacities will work with most DVRS but check first.

depending on what number of channels and how long you wanted to record (before overwriting starts)

I think that you could probably get a very reasonable DVR for that budget. The more channels/ HDD space,

the lower the spec you can afford basically. What is your budget for cameras?

You need to get someone who knows everything about everything (and better than anyone else) to explain

all the specs and then pour over the spec sheets. You get out exactly as much effort as you put in I'm afraid

Take a look at QVIS and Hikvision, both good brands and good value for money IMHO. Buy from a dealer that will offer good

after sales support, this might prove more difficult than choosing a DVR. Find a dealer that can speak to you in plain language and explain what you are getting and what the benefits to you will be. Best of luck
