pacasey 0 Posted June 18, 2014 Hard Drive recommendations? Just bought Hikvision NVR (DS-7716NI-SP/16) For Home use 16 cams and probably just have cameras recording with motion. Hard drive prices have come down quite a bit so looking at 3TB ... believe that should be more than enough for my needs? 4TB not much more ... so suggestions there also if better choice? What drives are recommended for NVR? Use same criteria to evaluate drives as you would if buying for a desktop computer? Thanks, Patrick
gb5102 0 Posted June 18, 2014 I would get drives designed for 24x7 usage, such as WD-AV or WD Purple drives. The Purple drives are pretty new, I've used a few of them and had no issues, the WD-AV line is more mature, I have lots(~60+) of these out there from 500GB to 4TB with no issues whatsoever. 3TB WD-AV = WD30EURX 3TB WD Purple = WD30PURX
Samir 0 Posted June 28, 2014 It's been a while since I've bought HDs, but the thing I look for is the MTBF spec and at what duty cycle. An MTBF of 1 million hours at 70%+ duty cycle is great, since that's about 80 years. Most cheapy hard drives are rated with 20% duty cycles and lower MTBFs. I avoid these drive lines.
