Wibble 0 Posted June 30, 2014 Hi everyone I'm so pleased I've found this forum as I'm looking for a burglar alarm solution and I'm currently having trouble finding what I want. The background We're in the UK We are having a house rewired and as part of that have been quoted for a standard burglar alarm system which includes: Front and back door trips 5 infra red sensors placed covering the entrances downstairs and one upstairs 2 active alarm boxes, one on the front and one on the back of the house One alarm panel There is no monitoring with the alarm or ongoing costs (except for the occasional call to keep a sim active). If the alarm sounds it will ring the boxes and ring our mobile, that's it. The quote for that is £850. I think there must be a better way than that, especially for the money involved. I'm sure I remember a product being talked about some time ago (years), probably on The Gadget Show which was motion sensitive cameras that called your phone if they detected movement and showed you an image/video of what was going on in real time. If that's possible I would like something that would: Work in day/night conditions. Alert a mobile with still (maybe video?) of what's happening on the property in real time. Ring an alarm box on the front of the house. There would need to be multiple cameras to cover the entry points of the house. Possible strange requests I would like something that could be switched on to record while we are in the property, we run a small business from home so it's always good to keep yourself covered with what customers requests etc., are, so I would like their meetings recorded (there will be a sign saying we are doing this!). Because of that I would like the cameras to record audio as well. Is it possible to get something with a speaker on it? If we were being burgled whilst away we could talk to the burglars...you are being filmed, police are on their way etc. As part of the rewire we are having cat6 put throughout the house so something that's wired rather than wireless is preferable. I don't want something that just records onto a DVR on site as they could just nick that as well! I'm not sure if what I'm after is even possible or available, I'm having trouble finding suitable things which I was quite surprised about, I thought there would be loads of options by now! Any advice would be hugely appreciated!!! Thanks very much.
ssnapier 0 Posted June 30, 2014 You could use Dropcam cameras for some of that, but if you want true alarms you will still need to tie in the sensors in the areas where you want them. Have you looked at something like SimpliSafe? I have never used them, but if you want a more DIY solution that might be an option. http://simplisafe.com/
