Emoorevets 0 Posted July 1, 2014 Hello folks, I am new to this forum and have never set up any kind of CCTV system at all.. ever. So, please forgive me if I ask any daft questions. I am fairly literate with computers/technology and have built my own PC's in the past but, I have no experience with CCTV or recording CCTV. I'll try to explain why we want a CCTV system and what we require from it and hopefully this will help you to understand what we're after and make it easier for you to advise. Here goes... My gran is in her mid 80's and lives alone only a mile away from us and also other family members, unfortunately, she now struggles with dementia and her short term memory is almost gone completely. She is completely mobile, physically healthy considering her age and, most importantly.. happy. She doesn't want to move into a 'home' and we'd like to make it easier to keep an eye on her so that she can continue to live in her home of 65 years for as long as possible. Unfortunately, in the area that she lives in, there are quite a few elderly residents which attracts far too many cold callers trying to take advantage. Only this week, we arrived at her house to find a sales person upstairs in her house, claiming she was using the toilet. My gran didn't even recall this sales person coming into her house such is her memory. Now, what we'd like to do is... Have CCTV outside the front door to record any visitors/sales people. Receive instant notification when the recording is activated. Be able to go on our computer and view live pictures from the CCTV. Is this possible to do at not too much expense? Ideally, the recording would be to a HDD at our house rather than at our grans, just to make viewing the recordings easier. But this is not essential if it is more difficult to do. Many thanks for any advice, and well done for sticking through reading this. Cheers
Roman.CA 0 Posted July 11, 2014 Any CCTV system can do what you need, just read the online manual for DVR before you make purchase. I'd suggest to install cameras inside the house too just in case. No need to buy expensive system unless you need to be able to id face of intruder, not sure if you need that, but even with cheap system you can put one camera to just to profile people who approach entrance or behind entrance to record faces of people who walk in up close. Just buy any 8 / 16 IP camera system you can afford, if you buy like 10 you can order directly from manufacturer (China) for better price that on eBay. Recording to HDD 1 mile away is impossible with analog system, but either analog or digital system can let you use app on your computer or phone to monitor / control DVR, i'd go with digital system though, its more flexible.
