Cameras going dark

Recommended Posts

I have several cameras, that in the last couple months have been getting dimmer and dimmer. The cameras are all the same brand, Shuttle. I have changed all the settings on the cameras and nothing helps. These cameras are about two years old. Shouldn't they last longer than that?

I have ten cameras at this location. Two failed last month, and two failed this month. All were just too dark to see clearly.

Never heard of shuttle, but if they are ir bullets then I have heard that ir bullet with the ir's on or close to the board tend to slowly over heat it causing video loss or distortion.

Full body. Sony 1/3 Super HAD, 480tv lines, .1 lux, color, 24v. They had a model # of OLC-040.

They do tend to run hot. They have been running about two years.

I am using a power box for all the cameras. I didn't check the power box they were on to see what the voltage was. I did however have a 24v wallwart type from ratshack that I used to test them after I got them back to the shop. They exhibited the same problem there. That leads me to believe the voltage is good, but I will double check to be sure.

This is one instance where quality does matter.

When I put these two systems together, I didn't know what I was doing on the camera/lens side. So I experimented. I bought some new cameras and some used cameras off eBay. All the used cameras were name brand, cost me less than half of the new, no name, camera price. And they are all still working. I havn't had any of the used name brand cameras fail. I put in about 10 cameras at both locations. 5 have failed. All being new no name units.
