Dedicated Micros SD - USB mouse and keyboard

I have an older dedicated micros SD dvr (software 4.2 so not the newer SD)

I do not have the IR remote or the KBC Keyboard to control it

but dm say in the datasheets that it can be controlled with a usb mouse and keyboard

 

but all I get is a mouse cursor no buttons I can click and the keyboard acts like its not plugged in (caps lock, num lock & scroll lock wont work)

Is the something I am missing or do I have to spend £300+ on the KBC keyboard
