DVR freeze

Recommended Posts

DVR freezers, after recording for 6 to 10 hours.

Of course I have replace HDD, re - updated firmware.

Changed power supply.. Then replaced DVR ..

Question is - could a faulty camera cause the dvr to freeze ? Or the modem or hdmi cable to monitor..?

Thanks for your help.

( HD-SDI )

Excerpt from recent article related to HDSDI:

"While video loss is not an uncommon occurrence among security cameras, you're usually able to trace the issue back to a specific problem. With HDSDI, don't be surprised if you can't find anything wrong. Most of the time, the problem is with the technology itself and not related to an installation error. Flickering and complete video loss is very common among HDSDI cameras. In some occasions you're video feed will just freeze. The solution to all of this is the same; reboot the whole system and don't be surprised if you have to reboot it several times in a row."

To answer your questions, I've never heard of a modem causing this. If your entire display is freezing and not just the camera feed, I would think your HDMI cable is probably at fault (probably poor quality).

Thanks for the feed back Don,

Have tried, second unit..again after running 5 hours it stopped.

sorry, what I mean is the HDD just stops , remote ip view stops working also..picture is still okay I.e running into monitor...Now the unit I pulled out works okay on the bench , I.e 100%

I asked customer to disconnect DVR from router..now been running for 30 hours ..with no problem..

Very strange, Over the years never seen this problem..

Note: there ADSL is running wifi to ipad etc with good speeds , no drop out..only thing plugged into router was DVR..

So next thing is too replace modem with another brand..Brand there using :

Wi Fi Modem SagemCom F@st 3864 (Optus)

That's really strange that the router is causing the HDD to stop recording. I really don't even know how that would happen.

Short of just trying another router, I wouldn't even know what to suggest. I've only ever had issues with SonicWALL when it came to brands but that's a completely different issue. Older hardware (i.e. modems and routers) from the ISP can also cause problems with networking and remote viewing, but I've never seen them affect the DVR so much that it stop recording.

Yes, Don..

It's quite amazing... Yet works fine on wifi & laptop using cat5.

customer is planing to get it replaced by his ISP, with another brand.

In the meantime his using my netgear with No problems..

But what the sagemcom modem does - once plugged in causes DVR to reboot few times, locks up front panel controls & mouse... Then after a few hours unit stops recording.

Have tried it on 2 x DVR's (same model) does same thing.

Of course have tried another cat5 patch cable..

Note: this modem has a fibre input..but customer is not on fibre.

Anyway this was a headfu*k job.

Cheers Jamie.
