rahl 0 Posted February 6, 2006 Hi, total newbie here! I've been reading through the forums for a few days and I think I'm finally getting a grip on things. I plan to install camera's around the outside of my home and inside my workshop, mainly to identify and track people and vehicles entering the property and making sure tools don't go wandering if the workshop's unattended. I'll be building a Geovision based PC for recording and web serving. I want to start off with 2 camera's and add more later but I was hoping for some advice on those first 2. First camera I want is to cover a driveway, facing north-east towards incoming traffic. The driveway's widest point is 25ft at a distance of 40ft and then narrows beyond that. I'd like colour to make identification easier and can provide sensor lighting at night to avoid using IR or day/night camera's. From what I've read, I figure a 1/3" 6mm lens would be suitable? According to this calculator an 8mm lens would work but I want to keep as much depth of field as possible. Does everything sound right so far? Can someone recommend a camera under $AU300 that would suit? The second camera is to be mounted above the house front door. I also want colour here and would like to cover about 10ft x 10ft. The camera will be under a 3ft eave, facing north and will be lit by sensor lights at night. Again, can someone recommend a camera under $AU300 that would suit? Thanks for any suggestions. I would have liked to ask for opinions on camera A,B or C but I have no idea what's available in Australia or what prices are like.
