stevenn21 0 Posted August 17, 2014 i bought some cameras and a dvr on ebay the cameras are: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171411858753?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT they are supposed to be sony effio a chip 800tvl but the picture is grainy they are better than the fake ones i sent back but not by much. i have set the zoom and focus to the best configuration possible for this application but this is the best image i can get. the window is dirty im talking about the writing on the plant pots ect its supposed to be 40m night vision but it cant see out of the window at nightime its pure black im using this dvr: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171377443192?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&var=470426919269&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT i bought the dvr and cameras from the same seller and i am using this cat5e cable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221457618366?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=520326486163&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and i am using the same ballins as the ones in the cat5e listing. the cable seems to be quite fragile and the copper breaks easily is this the best cable to use? is the cable why the picture is so bad? should i return the lot and get some ip cameras? i just sold a ip camera to my mom and the picture quality was much better than this any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance steven Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
mgb 0 Posted August 17, 2014 There will be a big difference between 800tvl analog and high def MP IP cameras. Cat 5e cabling would definitely be used if you go with ip cams and its possible to use with analogs such as your 800tvl cams but many time it's cheap baluns on the analog setup that hurts the picture quality. Another note: Your trying to use the IR lighting through windows to view outside at night? It's not gonna work right. For one thing, it's possible to get reflection back from the ir light and basically blind your camera. Beside that, if you don't get the reflection back, your still not gonna see through the window well. Stand in your kitchen at night with the light on in the room. What do you see out the window? Nothing right?turn off the light so the room is dark, now you can see outside. It's the same way for the camera with the ir light on. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
