Tej 0 Posted August 25, 2014 I have a night owl set and it is unbearable, there are a lot of theft in the area of my business. I need something good to catch these B*****Ds in there tracks. I'm looking for a 8 channel system 4 cameras or so for now... I've read Dahua mentioned alot here for there NVRs. basically I looked at Sec-NVR-Dahua-3208-P but I need to know if it can notify me right away when it detects motion on the property ? also I need cameras... I need something with very good night vision and high resolution so I can see the licence plates on their vehicles (they take thousands of dollars worth of diesel when they hit) I see some mentioning TVL and some mention 1080p... is there a big step up from 800TVL to 1080p? I need something that will last and actually help catch these criminals the police cant.
mgb 0 Posted August 25, 2014 When you see 700 or 800tvl mentioned, that's analog typically (though there are some ip cams that are lower res like that) Sounds like you wanna stay with ip. 2MP and 3MP. When trying to get license plates, you need to study up to make sure you do it right. There are a few good posts around here that go into great detail as far as proper setting of field of view and exposure, etc. One thing I'll say is that you shouldn't expect to get one great overall area shot and still see plates in great detail. It's about really knowing the choke points and keeping a tight aim to see the plate. Also most nvrs that I know of will email motion events as they happen but keep in mind that the motion settings on most cameras are far from perfect and many little events such as bugs will trigger motion as well as dust that wouldn't even normally be visible to the eye. One alternative is to use alarm system pir motions (dual or tri tech are best) and the them to available alarm inputs either at camera or nvr depending on setup. I also would say that because its a business, I personally would try to rely more on visible light than ir light for night time. To me LED flood lights really light up well for recording. There are many ir cameras that don't do a great job of lighting. The quality really differs from camera to camera. You can also buy separate ir illuminators made by companies like Raytec. They work great but are not cheap.
Tej 0 Posted August 26, 2014 Thanx for the reply... I'm looking into getting some flood lights installed with motion on and try to wire an alarm to that. Also for the cameras how is lorex? (Lorex LND2152B HD 1080p Outdoor Dome Power-Over-Ethernet Camera (White)) The lorex is about $100 dollars less than the dahua: (Dahua IPC-HDBW3300 3MP (3 Megapixel) Color IP Network Security Camera, HD 1080p (2048Hx1536V) Resolution, Day/Night mode) if i go dahua nvr with lorex cameras I could save $400+ as opposed to dahua cameras... I would really appreciate the help ... I just want to buy some thing good and not have any regrets.
dan732 0 Posted August 26, 2014 You also want to review physically security of your property as well Gates/fences/locks/ and don't forget signage Personally I am not crazy about "off brand cameras" like Lorex because they buy whatever is available at that moment (they are not manufacturers, they rebrand), so quality and firmware can very by the lot. I learned the lesson of saving a buck, it always ends up costing you 5 down the road....
mgb 0 Posted August 26, 2014 Before planning on using one manufactures nvr with another manufacturers cameras, check comparability as they don't all play well together.
Tej 0 Posted August 26, 2014 I guess I should stick with dahua then I guess.. thanks dan732. There are signs but the landlord is a cheap **** doesn't want to put up fence or anything. Stealing fuel and batteries from trucks is a very common issue in my neighborhood, fences/no fences barely make a difference.
