RJ11 connector swapout with rj45

Recommended Posts

Hi I am wiring a cctv system for a customer.

They have an old rj11 type Bosch system at the moment connecting to a monitor and then the monitor connected to a recorder with bnc out

I need to replace the system completely but don't fancy re-wirining it completely as it is a 3 storey old building and there is cameras on the outside too.

I was wanting to know could i cut the rj11 connectors on both sides and replace them with rj45 connectors running into baluns which i can connect to a bnc type dvr and bnc camera.

I would use two pairs one for power and the other for video as long as the wires are the same on both ends of the baluns would this work? or would i just hard wire it without baluns?

Any help is appreciated..

Thanks

Urphy

when I'm presented with similar situations I just take a silly putty egg, cram my wires into the putty, and close the shell. Works like a charm.
