nonsuchpro 0 Posted August 31, 2014 Hey all. This is my first post. And got a quick question: Is it a problem to use the RCA (audio) plugs provided on a BNC to RJ45 balun for data? Just cut off the RCA plugs and use the bare wires to go to and from RS485? I know I can get a balun pair that has specific "data" but I'm not sold on that for the additional cost. My cams don't have audio so, this would be better use of these 2 wires. This is what I plan on getting: Thanks in advance!
Dirk_D 0 Posted August 31, 2014 I don't see why not.
mgb 0 Posted August 31, 2014 Seems like it should work. Best tging to do is give it a test. If you'd rather not cut the balun's cable to test, you can pick up a cheap adaptor at radio shack with a female rca and hack that. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12475707
nonsuchpro 0 Posted August 31, 2014 Yeah guys, I was leaning that way too. I just wanted to see if anyone has actually done it. I do have that splitter on hand. It will make it easy to test. If it works, I'll solder on a good cable. I'll post the results in a few days when I get them. Thanks again! Rob
Securame 0 Posted September 1, 2014 You can use this, so no cutting needs to be done.
