NolliTV 0 Posted August 31, 2014 First post...I have a couple Hikvision IP box cameras (DS-2CD853F-E) as part of my home security and monitor system. I also use IVMS 4200 on a MacBook Pro as well as IVMS 4500 on an iPad and on an Android tablet to view the camera's live videos. However, I have not really setup anything beyond making sure the cameras work because I wanted to upgrade the firmware so that things would be in English rather than Chinese. I read in another forum that here is the place to be if one wants to figure out how to do such upgrade. I thought the latest Hikvision was 5.12...just saw in a post that there is a 5.20. From what I understand, firmware 5.12 and later will no longer support IVMS 4200. So. I am here to find out the best option for my cameras. I have downloaded the European version of firmware 5.12. buellwinkle 0 Posted August 31, 2014 Installing firmware from another country will not make your camera not Chinese. There's a few ways to make it English. Google Chrome can translate for you. You can modify the davinci file in the camera, but it would be different than the raptor firmware people here use for their cameras that start with the number 2, so you would have to do it manually by extracting the davinci file, editing it and putting it back and there's instructions if you search. Also, a forum member CBX has a business of modifying the language flag on the camera's flash where it also contains the serial and model number. I doubt his fix will work for your camera model, but maybe he can figure it out for your camera. Also, depends how technical you are. Honestly, your best bet is to install 5.1.0 firmware, it's English even in the Chinese version. Just ask who you got the camera from to provide you the proper 5.1 firmware for that camera. There's things in 5.1 you can't do in 5.1.2 unless you have a reason to have the most current firmware with reduced features, you may want to reconsider the latest is better theory. iTuneDVR 2 Posted September 1, 2014 CBX! Yes my friend! In addition to the cameras have DVR yet. I did some successful solutions to both issues. Generally you will have something to do in the near future, and certainly not overstay in one place. Apart from Hikvision have other brands!

Thanks for the info...I had already download versions 5.0, 5.10. and 5.1.2 firmware. The only reason I wanted firmware 5.1.2 is the supposed improvement in low light settings. Some have said is not worth it; however, I could use any improvement to low lighting.
NolliTV 0 Posted September 1, 2014 There may be discussion on this here but due to the sparse use of stickies it may take some work to search out. Thank you for the info...I spent yesterday evening reading through...interesting indeed.
