How to use Vivotek ST5701 software with Windows 8

Vivotek still have not updated ST5701 server software to run on Windows 8. The problem is the 10 year old versions of the database packages they include in the installer.

 

The solution is to head over to http://www.postgresql.org/download/windows/ to download and install the latest PostgreSQL. I believe I used all default settings.

 

Now when installing the ST5701 server portion, tell it to use your existing PostgreSQL install.

 

Now I can retire the existing windows 7 laptop I've been using for this. Hope this helps someone else with this problem. (And, really, VIVOTEK? Update your installer already!)
