xavier4or 0 Posted September 27, 2014 Here is my current set-up: 6 Hikvision 5MP cameras, 2 with Audio recording (motion detection, 80% sensitivity) Everything Cat 6a hardwire, 1 GB switch 4TB external HDD PCNVR: Dell laptop, 4-gen Core i7, 8gb memory, integrated graphics Situation: Current CPU utilization is around 60-70% (peaks up to 90%+ semi frequently) Current memory utilization is around 40-60% And I have 1 more 5MP camera with Audio recording on order If I move to a server, single or dual CPU, will that significantly reduce the CPU utilization? ssnapier 0 Posted September 29, 2014 If you just had a similar spec desktop instead of a laptop, I am betting your issues would go away. Laptops are optimized for mobile use and what that means in nearly all cases is optimization to lean towards low power draw. What that means to you is just a lack of horsepower to handle those streams. Get a desktop PC with similar specs (maybe more RAM) and a decent 2GB video card and you should be good to go.
