christnp 0 Posted November 28, 2014 Good morning! Long story short, the video output on my REVO system died and I tried to re-flow the video chip, but no luck... I get the video to output for a split second, but then goes blank again. I've tried it on a couple monitors with different VGA cables. I might try a couple other things to resurrect the system, but ultimately it should probably be replaced... I'm wanting to convert the REVO DVR system to a DIY NVR system with an IP camera setup. I've done some "googling" and research on this forum but have not found a answer to my question... I'm just wondering if it is technically possible to convert an RJ12 camera (or BNC camera) to an "IP camera"? I'm thinking there will need to be some type of converter box that will give the cameras an IP and MAC... does such a device exist? (Or maybe this will be a good electronic hobbyist project for me... ) R/ Nick You can convert bnc to ip using an encoder.... often it is more cost effective to either run new ethernet or use sdi/cvi/tvi cameras that can give you hd video over rj59... christnp 0 Posted November 28, 2014 Ah thank you! Now with that known, I can Google "IP Video Encoder" and a lot of information comes up -- it's good to know what I am actually looking for. Wow, you are right though... a one port IP video encoder is almost $100! May as well buy a whole new IP camera for a little bit more. Darn, was hoping there would be a quick solution to get my system up and running until I can save money for an IP system. Edit: Also, I was planning on running "new" ethernet cable to replace the Revo rj12 cable. Then the encoder would be close to the camera to convert from rj12/BNC to RJ45 ethernet. christnp 0 Posted November 28, 2014 if you are running new ethernet it makes no sense to use encoders...just buy the hikvision 2032 for 85 on aliexpress I agree now that I know a video encoder is more than an IP camera... without previous knowledge, I figured it would be a cheap (temporary) solution to just use the current REVO cameras and simply encode them so they would function as an IP camera. Thus, I would only have to invest in an NVR and some ethernet cable. Now I will have to save up and just replace the whole system. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
