Elevator CCTV Installation Tips and Experiences

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Would like to know what are the best practices for installing elevator cameras, recently had a bad experience installing wireless RF transmitters (about 500mW) for a 13 floor building.. the result was dissapointing. they seem to have some glitches (no video) when the elevator is moving, checked connections, tried to reorient antennas with almost no changes.

you can take a look of the RF "transceiver" here:

I would like to know about your experiences for cabling, or wireless in this case.

Thanks in advance from Brazil.

Wireless in elevators have been a nightmare. Attempted a wireless system for external scaffold elevator and had the same issues you said, video cut out, laggy, etc when the elevator was moving. Plain old camera running on the elevator cable is always the best solution if possible. If someone has done a wireless setup with radios (I used Fluidmesh) that have worked, let me know!

Hello, I am new to this forum but not new to elevators as I am an elevator mechanic.

I can offer that most travelling cables ( large multi conductor cable that attaches the car electrics to the machine room) have an existing RG59 coax in them.

This would be the preferred method. I don't recall seeing any UTP in the traveller cable but I haven't been involved in too many modernizations/new construction jobs.

I have seen a wireless news/advertisement system with an antennae at the top of the hoistway, but it would update the program when it had a good connection/reception etc., and no live feed.
