cavcom 0 Posted December 18, 2014 I am designing a job right now where I have some runs of 500-1000' that have existing coax (not sure of gauge assume the worst) from there legacy analog system. What can I use to keep the coax and also power the new cameras? The new cameras will most likely be Avigilon 3-5 mp bullets with IR or axis P series with Ir. Can I use the old power wires of the coax to power the camera directly or do I buy a device that takes the power from the old coax with and spits out poe? Thanks in advance
ssnapier 0 Posted December 18, 2014 NVT EC-1701, they are rock solid and have a lifetime warranty. I have at least 20 of these in the field and the only one that failed actually got hit by a truck and flew about 250 feet after the impact. http://www.nvt.com/content.php?type=product&key=ec1701&cid=root

thewireguys 3 Posted December 19, 2014 Really happy with http://www.vigitron.com/ They even have a 2-wire with POE solution
cavcom 0 Posted December 19, 2014 Thanks everyone for responses. I am going with NVT simply because Adi sells them.
Securame 0 Posted December 19, 2014 Wow, I didn't even know this existed. Network signal over coax, and also POE? Awesome, I will remember if I ever need this.
thewireguys 3 Posted December 19, 2014 I can tell you the Vigitron gear is rock solid. We took over a large mall with 1500ft coax runs and the Veracity units wouldn't work. Vigitron works running Avigilon's 2MP PTZ cameras with 802.11at on 1500ft coax. Also using them for some wireless links. 1000ft of coax to Vigitron to 48VDC to 18VDC converter to wireless AP. All powered from our POE switch. Again Veracity would not work.
ssmith10pn 0 Posted December 20, 2014 It's a home run on Parking decks. Most of the time cat5 is out of spec on distance because they only have one aggregation point.
Don Stephens 0 Posted December 20, 2014 I'm going to have to steal these links. I've been aware of these for awhile but I've never personally had a need for them. How are they on the wallet?
ssmith10pn 0 Posted December 20, 2014 We also use them in Elevators because there is usually a coax in the traveler cable.
