zoom camera

does anyone else have customers that ask the question "are there cameras that only zoom not pan/tilt?" i think the question behind it is really do you have a cheaper ptz camera.

 

but have you guys ever heard of a camera that has maybe 2 different focal points where you could remotely go from wide shot to tight.

There are lots of options. Almost everybody has an optical zoom camera, even COP-USA has them...

 

 

They use RS232/R485 interface controls.

You mean digital zoom?

 

The Covi camera is a HD camera and can show 3 highlighted areas of the scene at the lower part of the screen. It uses digital zoom also, but not that crazy number on the COP camera.

 

I don't know anyting about this camera that you just showed, but when it shows 216x zoom I don't think it is so hot.

 

Plus I heard with a COP camera you wish there was a COP there.

this camera is particular isn't that great, I was just using it for reference and showing that even Cop-USA has them available, also meaning that you can find them in a variety of locations.

 

The 216X zoom is must marketing, just like a PTZ does. It has 18X Optical and 12X Digital zoom.

ive looked at covi, good stuff but i would have to run utp to the camera i think or am i wrong.

 

can you explain how the digital zoom works, you connect these box cameras with a data line like you would a ptz and control them with a pelco joystick and/or throught the dvr???

Yes, you could control them thru the DVR if you wanted!

The best zoom camera I have seen(and I have seen and used alot) is Samsung GVI SCC-C4305 Samsung IC Series Camera, Day/Night, Dual voltage, 1/4" Color DSP, WDR, 22x Optical, 10x Digital Zoom, Motion

Detection, .007 Lux for Color, .002 Lux for B&W.

As for the Covi it can be set up with a lap top, PDA or PC then mounted if you only want to run coax or you can run cat 5 and have full control with the right keyboard or dvr.

Arghhh, i used a bunch of those GVIs a couple years ago . they are same as the COP-USA gear .. OEMed from China or Taiwan. They dont do very well in Low light, the BW mode is pixelised, i think my colleague still has some ... he switched them for the Provideo Low Light Color Domes which in color mode, see better than that GVI model in BW mode - remember there are several "seperate" Samsung companies, TechWin is the higher quality gear. while GVI is a US company that sells alot of OEM gear.

 

 

I dont know what the model number was but it was the only Day Night Zoom camera they were selling under Samsung GVI. Perhaps you meant Techwin .? They have all the WD gear ... or maybe Im just spoilt by the GE and Sanyo ..

I was looking at the data sheet on that Samsung and they are advertising the Lux ratings with "sense up" turned up to the max for those ratings. The most accurate rating they show is .2 for color and .07 for BW and that is at sense up x 4.

 

I love optical zooms though.

 

I probably should not have mentioned the Covi as a zoom camera because really I just like the feature of how you can digital zoom into 3 other areas in the FOV of the camera and hightlight those areas for a closer look. Downloaded some demo clips and liked what I saw.

 

I haven't seen any still shots or video fromt he Samsung so it is still a mystery.

Also, a Zoom camera is generally useless without a Pan and Tilt.

(and yes I know what instances it may be used in, we installed a bunch of them)

I had some problems with the first set of zoom cameras from gvi to but I tell you what this model here is sweet but not cheap and they have about 6 models this being the best. Tameron used to have a good one but its discontinued and it didn't work on protocol like it was suppoosed to. The only way I could get it to be control through a dvr was using a Legacy receiver by the camera to translate the protocol to dc voltage signals or a DTMF decoder.

I sell alot of the Covi cameras to casinos and the only drawback is trying to focus them while up on a 50 ft ladder, at the same time programming them onto your PDA or laptop. I've heard they are coming out with a new version of EVQ1000 that doesn't require a PC. You will be able to preset it directly from the camera.
