CD55 Pan Speed

Recommended Posts

We use the CD55 for our PTZ in most installations. However, we're experiencing some issues with the pan-speed at one of our customers.

This camera scales down the pan-speed based on how far you're zoomed in. The problem is that the thing slows waaaaaaaaaaaay down beyond being usable.

My customer is wanting to be able to zoom in on people, and follow them as they're walking along-side the property, and the camera slows down too much to be able to keep up. As a result, customer has to zoom out, reposition the PTZ, zoom back in, repeat.

Has anyone ever modified the pan-speed, or the speed ratio @ zoom for this camera? If so - I'd love to know how.

Thanks!

Being OEM is probably why, Ive used the GE CyberDomes and they were super fast ... could follow anyone . was also using their keyboard though which helped as it has a joystick.

Thanks Rory -

We typically use these domes with GeoVision software ... and just recently have been using joysticks.

With a joystick, you can control the pan speed according to the deflection of the stick... the CD55 dome works great this way ... just as long as the camera is zoomed back. After it's zoomed in - the dome only rotates at one speed ... no matter how far you move the joystick.

When using the GeoVision software to control the PTZ - you have a series of buttons to click to pan/tilt ... and you can't "half-click" a button .. so you get no ability to control speed like you would w/joystick deflection. You're either clicking the "pan-left" button, or you're not ... so the slow-down "feature" makes more sense in that scenario (even if it's still too slow).

Anyway - I'll look into the GE domes. What protocol are you using to control them? Will they work with pelco d/p?

Yep i Know what you mean.

Ive used the GE with GeoVision, but the client primarily used the GE KTD-405 Keyboard, which allows super fast control. They use the Kalatel Protocol, which almost every DVR will support. You do need a convertor from GE and also the box from Geo though to connect it up.

there's a couple other guys on here that could give a little more info without having to look it up, as I did it last summer and only for one client, but it worked like a snap.
