jonny392 0 Posted January 12, 2015 So I have a cctv set up which has a ptz camera for use around the yard, it has a power supply in a shed outside, the cat5 cable is then underground to the house where it is plugged through a balun into a dvr, the system has worked for 2 or 3 years but went to use it the other day and everything works apart from there is no image. I can turn the camera using my phone and laptop and the date/time is in the top right hand corner of the screen although the rest of the screen is just shown as a dark grey. What could be the problem?
Numb-nuts 1 Posted January 12, 2015 Restart the PTZ Camera, break the power and reinstate it 24vac probably. Likely this will sort it out as it sounds like a stuck iris. If Not, Next swap that camera to another channel to eliminate your DVR as the culprit MY next guess would be to check the baluns are connected properly at both ends. I'd remove them and try then with another camera briefly to eliminate them as the cause. Then I'd take the video pair and leave an open circuit and test them for open circuit and then twist one end together and test for a closed circuit. If all of these tests pass, then it may be your camera itself. Some can be repaired or replaced others cheaper ones may prove to be uneconomic to repair. In the latter case there are numerous cheap and IMHO quite good value ptzs from China on ebay, aliexpress and DHGate. With any luck it will be something really simple. The most likely possibility is a fractured solid copper conductor in the balun screw terminal. If that turns out to be the case, strip the conductor back and if possible get some wiring end-ferrules and crimp onto the stripped conductors before reinserting into the balun. End ferrules Cheap low cost crimp plier for ferrules
jonny392 0 Posted January 13, 2015 Hi, Thanks for the information. I was wondering if the power supply I am using at the camera is sufficient (output 12v 3000mA):- http://www.ukcctvsystems.co.uk/qvis-mini-ptz-mini-ptz-dome-12x-without-wdr-500tvl The camera in the yard is about 50 feet from the power supply for the camera which is also in the yard. The house is about 150 feet from the camera. Thanks
jonny392 0 Posted January 14, 2015 Should I upgrade the power supply to 12v 5amp? Thanks
jonny392 0 Posted January 14, 2015 Moved the power supply to directly beside the ptz camera but made no difference still black screen. Any other suggestions? If its a stuck iris how can this be resolved?
the toss 0 Posted January 15, 2015 You said previously that it was a grey screen & now your saying it is a black screen. They can mean two different things
jonny392 0 Posted January 15, 2015 Its a dark grey screen with date/time in the corner.
jonny392 0 Posted January 15, 2015 This is what I am seeing
cctvmann 0 Posted January 16, 2015 where are you based, have you tried connecting a working camera to the video cable at your ptz end to see if an image appears on the screen
tomcctv 190 Posted January 16, 2015 Hi. Have you pressed this button about 10x ?? But yes better power supply would help. If you still have control over your PTZ data then it is your video link that has the problem Check baluns at each end Another is do a camera reset by hitting 11 on number keys and then reset on screen menu
jonny392 0 Posted January 16, 2015 What button is that? no image showing. I haven't got a spare camera to try. If anyone knows where I could get a balun like this let me know:- http://adata.co.uk/ttp111vpd
tomcctv 190 Posted January 16, 2015 How many baluns are on your cable ? You can use other type of balun the one you have listed are not the best. And that type is not good if you update your PTZ at a later date
jonny392 0 Posted January 17, 2015 What type of baluns should I use and what wires go where? What would it do by pressing that button a lot?
secplus 0 Posted January 22, 2015 take the camera out, put it next to the DVR, give it power, and use a coax line to test it out, if it works then is the wires, which then use a separate pair for video, if it doesn't then the camera is bad. simple as that.
