smithgroup 0 Posted February 3, 2015 Hello all, I am designing a system for a client with these specifications: 40 Cameras - Leaning towards Hikvision DS-2CD2732F-I(S) Stand Alone Security Network Cisco SG500-52MP for gigabit switch and PoE+ Security Server -PowerEdge R430 - 2 Socket -Dual Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 Processors, 6C/12T 2.4Ghz -32GB RAM -Dual Gig NICs Storage Area Network Drobo b1200i 12 4TB Drives BeyondRAID Multipath I/O SCSI A separate terminal will be setup as a viewing and playback client With this in mind the last thing to decide is what VMS software to use? I've never used iVMS for a 4 camera install let alone 40. Some people do use it but for an environment where end users will be interacting with it, it isn't the most user friendly. I would recommend Exacq or Milestone. Also, don't forget you may need some powerful workstations for viewing and playback depending on how many they plan to pull up at once. tomcctv 190 Posted February 3, 2015 Hi. IVMS 5200 pro will do what you need. Plus that amount of cameras you will get free if from a gen supplier. So no licence costs. But I would look at your design. Do all cameras need to be the same A good managed network can be helped buy using hikvision 2mp and 3mp 3mp would be a waste in areas like hallway or close entry and exit. smithgroup 0 Posted February 4, 2015 How does the licensing structure work for iVMS 5200 Pro. Where can i get it? I order their cameras through online suppliers not in the security industry. I doubt they'll have or care about software licensing. Honestly, Hikvision's website blows. Most of the information says coming soon. So... how would I access it and get it licensed? Thanks! tomcctv 190 Posted February 4, 2015 Hi you don't need a licence if all hikvision Your problem is going to be where you buy from. 40 cameras is not a install to try buy cheap. smithgroup 0 Posted April 16, 2015 Hello again, This project got put on the back burner by the client, but now they are ready to get moving again. I've reached out to several distributors, but they still haven't given me straight answers. I downloaded the trial of iVMS 5200 Pro and it worked very well. I just need to try and figure out how to get a price for it from somewhere. Any help? Which vendors do you guys use? Also, this client is now looking to add some sort of LPR/vehicle identification onto the system as well. Hik says that iVMS can support that. Is that an additional plug in? Where is the database stored? Is there an application provided to access data, or will I have to write something for the database itself? If this is something a little more involved, I'm also available to chat on the phone. Send me a PM and we'll find sometime to talk on the phone. jestermaroc 0 Posted April 17, 2015 Hello Smith, Looks like an exciting project! Hikvision are great cameras for a very reasonable price. However, I see that you plan on using the same camera model for every location? I would recommend that you pay careful attention to the individual requirement of each camera and location, that way you can custom spec the lens and quality of each. Your client will thank you later I promise you! Secondly, I would recommend that you purchase smaller PoE+ switches and then simply daisy chain them together. You will save a lot of labour this way, since you do not have to lay cables for 40 cameras to a central location. Something like the TP-LINK TL-SG1008PE which has 8xPoE ports or even the budget Tenda TEG1009P which has 4xPoE ports. You will find that you often install a couple of cameras close together and then again a couple some distance away. Having to lay a few cables to connect your switches is a lot more efficient, and you can easily lay and connect extra cables for redundancy. I would also recommend Milestone VMS. Yes, you do need to purchase software and camera licenses, but you will get a fantastic product which is scalable and you can add LPR module to the suite.
