Connecting non POE camera to POE NVR

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm doing stuff on the cheap here - managed to pick up a 4 channel NVR with POE for extremely cheap from a local store of some random brand (ZXTech). Also picked up 3 920p camera's (non POE ZXTECH camera's) for cheap too.

The links to the shops website are:

Camera's:

In an ideal world I would have ordered the better stuff from Aliexpress and happily waited but work is sending me off somewhere for a few weeks end of the month and I couldn't afford to take the risk of the delivery not arriving.

I've set everything up quite easily on the box (despite the instructions on the CD supplied being for a totally different box) but am having issue with the POE that I'm hoping someone can help me with.

As the camera's are non-POE but the box is POE; I thought I could simply run cat5e cables from the box to the cameras and use splitters to get the power out of the cable into the cameras. This doesn't seem to be the case as the cameras register no power at all.

Is that correct or have I got a duff box here? The splitters seem to work and power up the cameras if I inject power at the other end of the cable with a separate power source.

These are the splitters I used:

This does not work for me without the injector.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Apologies if this has been asked before but I'm having trouble with the search on this site (sorry!).
