steq184 0 Posted February 27, 2015 Hi I have 4 cameras connected to my dvr using cat5 and passive baluns. 3 of the cameras work fine but having trouble with 1. The cameras are powered by a power adapter with a 4 way splitter. The one i am having trouble with does not show a picture but when i cover the green led the ir lights up. Things i have tried so far: Disconnected the other 3 working cameras and their power - no difference. Swapped around the baluns- no difference. Swapped around dvr channels - no difference. Changed cat5 - no difference. Swapped around cameras - no difference. Any ideas please? Also when i only have the 3 cameras connected they are all good picture, when i connect the 4th camera up even though the 4th camera does not show a picture it makes the other 3 cameras bad picture......guess this problem is the power adapter so will get a better one. Ed Rose 0 Posted February 27, 2015 Have you tried the bad camera connected by itself and to a different power port on the power adapter? If so, and you got same results, it sounds like it could be the camera. Especially if the picture quality in the other three changes when you connect the bad one. Another thing to check would be contacts where the cat5 plugs into the camera. If one of the little wires are out of line, it could create a short inside the camera on the lens circuit. But it doesn't sound like the power supply by what you have described. Hope this helps. EGR
Numb-nuts 1 Posted February 27, 2015 You have IR clicking in so the camera is getting power but how many volts. You tried swapping out the cable and the baluns at both ends and there was no difference? Yes/ Have you tried a different camera on that line/channel? I am thinking the camera might be at fault but usually thats unlikely if this is a new installation. Most common is a faulty single balun but you eliminated that but you video signal is not getting to the DVR. If you have a field test monitor test with seperate baluns direct to a BNC monitor remove the camera connections and send a test card from the camera end to the DVR and see if it displays if it does the line is okay it's the camera (Probably)
