Security System Antenna Help

Recommended Posts

Hello All, I'm new to this forum so I hope this is the correct spot. My friend recently purchased a Lorex LW482W system. It has two wireless cameras and a dvr. We were in the process of setting it up this last weekend and mounted the cameras inside of a cattle barn since they will be used to monitor cattle. We then proceeded to check out the DVR and monitor signal strength of each camera. Out of a possible 4 bars we had 2-3 bars and that allowed us to have a decent audio and video for a short time. After around an hour or so the wind picked up dramatically and the cameras started having connection issues. We had ordered some omni directional antennas(Lorex ACCANTO8) to mount onto the cameras to help with signal but unfortunately there were out of stock. On the DVR the wireless cameras have a little receiver box type thing with an antenna to receive the 2.4 ghz RF. My question is. would I be able to unscrew the antennas on the receiver portion and run a cable from a different antenna mounted on the roof of the house for better LOS? I'm looking to boost the strength of signal. Anyways thanks for reading and sorry for my lack of surveillance system knowledge.
