Indoor flying drone security camera

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, what do you think of the following idea?

I'm an American student entrepreneur who is trying to launch a flying security camera. It's an IP, 720p HD camera with detection and stabilization algorithms and recording running centrally on the cloud. It's viewable in a web browser or on smartphone. I'm launching a Kickstarter to raise money to bring it to production -

Do you think this idea is totally off, or do you think it has some merit?

For our first, residential prototype, it's about 5 minutes, with 30 minute charge. So if the consumer needed to check his/her home more than every 30 minutes, this wouldn't be for them. If they need more than a short glance on their phone/tablet, it also wouldn't be for them.

We're doing some work on longer flight times but pretty far away from it right now, it's hard!

What is difference between your "drone" and any other thousands drones with cameras flying all over the place

They are hard to use, or overly expensive. They don't sync to your home Wi-Fi and instead create their own network. The phone UI is ugly and unintuitive. They don't have common algorithms for security cameras, or cloud storage and viewing. And they don't have an easy charging mechanism if you're away.

The first thing come to mind

How will you make sure that your "remote drone" is absolutely safe ?

You're completely right - that's one of the first things we thought about too. It would be terrible if some 16 year old's room camera got hacked and leaked all over the internet, or something. My partner is more of the lead in this, but we would use encryption to send the data and make sure only the user is able to access the video stream.

Thanks for your responses! I need to get back to work, but if you think it's interesting, we still need to raise money to cover the manufacturing costs!

I have different idea for you

forget camera

put speaker on drone

now imagine

House.. dark

intruder inside home

Alarm will sent trigger to drone

Drone start to fly

lights blinking, with voice screaming

Get out from f....g house and so on

much easier to design, build and sell

On another hand may I should do my own kick starter project

by the way very safe "idea"

HAHAHA I would be so scared if that happened to me! We thought about that actually, and are thinking of adding both audio and video.

i am sure I seen one of these on tv- storage wars- I think for anyone who watches it- barry had one and flew it into the storage locker lost control of it and whacked it off the wall. don't know if was wireless or just blue tooth- had a couple of led lights as well.

what would be the primary commercial use for this be what industry etc what volume of expected sales within said industry/ies. it may be to small or a niche market.

good luck.

Don't forget the priceless chandelier in the dining room...

Keep the indoor security cameras fixed to the ceiling or walls!!

Cheaper and much better stable images...
