New setup - Ideas

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, need some input on my research so far....

I'm considering the following Hikvision system with 6 cameras (mixture), still deciding on the narrow/wide lens:

DS-2CD2232-I5

DS-2CD2032-I

DS-2CD2632F-ISJB

DS-2CD2332-I

DS-7608NI-E2/8P 8CH NVR

Seems pricey, is there alternative NVR? as I don’t need the POE function as I was planning on using a Netgear GS108P POE switch. Otherwise I'll ditch the POE switch and just use the NVR with a 4tb disk.

Basically I want a live feed on external monitor, some cameras to record events on motion detection on selected area and some continuous recording. I also need the email alerts function to work - this is a MOST. The quality needs to be set to highest (HD).

I've bought stuff in the past from China and found software to be very flaky. I already have two unbranded IP cameras, the software is rubbish and so is the web GUI. But the cameras work really well with the Blue Iris (demo) that I've been testing on HP Microserver N36L ( Win7x64 with 8GB ram and 1GB HD graphics). Not sure if these unbranded cameras will work with Hikvision NVR. Another possible solution is to use Microserver with dedicated software instead of NVR, not sure if the baby CPU can handle it.

Was thinking of buying from AliExpress, the seller (http://www.aliexpress.com/store/1006255) claim to be authorised Hikvision seller. Are they actually selling clone or genuine? If they are genuine then why the sellers only want you to upgrade to the firmware from them rather than the official website?

Am new to CCTV game but not to IT field. Been reading loads for the past few weeks before deciding to post as the subject is getting deeper and deeper. BTW am based in UK. Thanks

I have read all your posts and personally think that is is a good idea actually you should go for it as if you have any issue further than they can be solved later.
