Outdoor enclosure distance from glass to lens

Recommended Posts

I have a generic outdoor enclosure with a heater and blower. How close should the lens be from the enclosure glass? Should it be nearly touching the glass or does there need to be a gap to circulate air when there moisture condenses on the glass? The heater block sits about 1" from the glass.

[background: The enclosure is mounted under an eve and is protected from the sun, however, this is the midwest with below freezing temps]

If your lens was right up against the glass no warm air would circulate and that rather defeats the object of having a heater and blower. Too far away is also not helpful the short answer is neither too far nor too near. So how Far is that? Answer? = DUNNO?

Trial and error seems to be the best answer, Try a small gap about a finger's width and go from there.

Warmed Air needs to circulate across the entire glass surface to prevent condensation or misting.

Put it too far away and light will play tricks with your camera reflecting light from different angles.
