genealle 0 Posted April 21, 2015 Want to mount a WI-Fi camera on front porch to cover entry door and porch. Only power out there is a 110v porch light. Thought about: Mounting the power supply in the can behind the fixture but it's too shallow and probably not safe. Maybe a small waterproof box wall mounted next to the fixture and place the PS in it, using a short romex line from the fixture? Don't like the extra visibility though. Cut a hole in the wood siding and install the box inside the wall, line to fixture can, and use a waterproof cover? Sounds best but more work. Is there a Wi-Fi cam that uses 110v, no PS? Doubtful. Solar?? Whatdyathink?
Numb-nuts 1 Posted April 21, 2015 Start powering cameras from a power source with no earth and you are just asking for trouble like earth loops and physical danger Lighting circuits have no earth line normally just a live and neutral but no earth. Don't risk it. Use a low voltage camera 12V DC or 24V AC Power it from a regulated mains transformer.
