stsguy 0 Posted May 21, 2015 Hello helpful folks. I have a qr414 dvr by qsee. I'm wondering this.... my laptop (room a) is connected to the Internet via a wireless router to a modem (room b). Does the dvr have to have the cat5 (lan) directly connected to the router? Or can I connect dvr cat5 to laptop cat 5 without running a cat5 from room a to b? Confused? jeromephone 6 Posted May 21, 2015 the cleanest way would be to hook both laptop and dvr to the router. via cable. you will only have to have the hardwired connection to the laptop active and you will still have internet and access to any other equipment on the network. stsguy 0 Posted May 22, 2015 That's what I want to get away from if i can. Plugging dvr to laptop and access the router and Internet without wiring. I totally understand a hard wire install and that it would be best. Dvr to laptop with a short cat 5 and wifi to the rest would be easier I just don't know if it will work that way. If not I will need to hard wire.
