Missing Time

I have been reviewing footage using EZViewLog500.exe provided by an institution as part of a public records request. The system the institution is using has Geovision set up for motion detection, which leads to small gaps in the footage. At one point there is a 6 minute gap in the footage, which seems to be a bit outside of the norm (obvious repetitive motion before and after the gap and the only other gaps over a minute or two are when no one is in the room the camera is covering). Can someone who has experience with Geovision tell me if that is a normal situation? Is there anyway to tell if a file has been deleted or shortened?

You can also ask to view the log info. Each time a camera starts recording it logs and when it stops it logs. The log file should also be available for that time period.

 

All sorts of things can cause motion detection to trigger, changes in light, tree limbs blowing in the wind breaks in the wind gusts all shadows. It's not perfect as it works on pixel changes which when detected are considered movement. It's probably more detailed than my simplified explanation but frankly that's all I needed to understand about it and all I wanted to know (if I'm honest about it).

 

I am sure some know-it-all doughnut here will blow a lot of hot air full of facts and figures your way which may impress nobody but won't answer your question either, before you (and the rest of us with a life) are bored to death.

Thanks for the answer. I'm not sure if the log file would be eligible for a public records request and if someone at the institution was responsible for deleting a recorded event I'm not sure how forthcoming they would be. Is the log file based on the camera or is it system wide? They have dozens of cameras and I'm not sure how I'd go about requesting the log file for just this one camera unless it's camera specific. I do know that there is also an ongoing criminal investigation related to this and If I can't get the log file I may at least be able to steer the police in the right direction.

do you have digital watermark enabled on the cameras. There is a program to show that the video has not been altered if you have the watermark enabled.

Is the time stanp absolutly correct? Its just possible that the missing time is lost when the timestamp has been changed to correct the time. This can be seen on the DVR activity log is the time was changed.
