ejTV 0 Posted May 29, 2015 I decided to get my feet wet with a desk mounted Hikvision (http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=2236) before venturing into outfitting the rest of the house. I took it out of the box and plugged an ethernet connection in to it and....nothing. No lights, nothing. I tried different cables, different router, etc. It should get power directly from a router port correct? No POE Injector wall plug is required right? Am I missing something? Because this is the very first experience with any camera really, I have zero clue what I'm doing except the little that I've learned here on this forum. Any guidance would be appreciated. The camera will not power from the router..you need a poe injector or a poe switch...or you can use a 12v 1a, power adapter.

Thank you for your quick response. I can stop trying every port and cable that I can find.

Is there any sense in upgrading to the POE + version? What about Giga (1000Mbps) over Mega (100Mbps)?
