nunsy 0 Posted June 22, 2015 Hello I have an 8 channel video surveillance system, and the DVR comes with a standard RJ45 port and 3 USB ports. One of the USB ports supports a WiFi-USB Stick, but my problem is, that it doesn't work with all the WiFi USB sticks, but a specific one which i have to purchase additionally from the supplier. So my question is, Is there a way for me to install the drivers of another WiFi-USB stick (e.g. Belkin, Atheros,etc) directly onto the DVR? I have been able to connect to the DVR using the Ethernet port and via Telnet. The DVR runs on an embedded Linux 3.0.8 and BusyBox v.1.16.1. The thing is, I am new to Linux and installing drivers(modules) on it, and also have no prior experience on with embedded linux. I've browsed through the system, and I've found the already installed modules on the DVR (lsmod command), but i have no idea how, and where to install other drivers (or if at all possible). BTW, i have already purchased a WiFi Repeater with an Ethernet port, and i will be able to connect it. I am doing this because I find the whole process it interesting. But at the same time it is Very annoying , that some vendors limit us to a very few specific WiFi-USB sticks that are ridiculously overpriced. In this case the wifi usb stick didn't cost much (~20€) but i have a smart tv, for which the vendor is asking over 100€ just for the stick. (Fu.. off) So, has anyone done this before ? Probably not, unless you were looking at installing/selling hundreds or thousands of that unit, in which case you would talk with the manufacturer so they would integrate whatever drivers you wanted on the unit. nunsy 0 Posted June 22, 2015 You are right. It is not worth it in terms of money. But I am interested in the procedure, if anyone knows it, as i find it interesting. Right now I've found that the pre-installed driver(module) on my DVR is for a Ratlink rt3070sta device. If there are no specific IDs set in the DVR, that would mean that any device with a Ratlink rt3070sta would work. Here is what i am interested in doing: http://wiki.samygo.tv/index.php5/Using_NoN-Samsung_USB_WiFi_dongles_with_TV This procedure is for a Samsung TV, but it's more or less the same thing for the DVR. To actually install the drivers on the device. So far, I don't know how to do it, as the commands in the DVR are limited. As i said, i am asking more out of curiosity. nunsy 0 Posted June 22, 2015 In my case i have to drill through 2 stories to reach it with an Ethernet cable. The houses is solid concrete, 25-30cm thick, lots of metal... So my point is, cables are really messy and hard to accomplish sometimes. WiFi is the way to go. Anyways, if someone stumbles on this thread from google, or someone else on the forum is willing to share his/her experiences, I'll be glad to hear how.
