Chantz 0 Posted July 4, 2015 Yes, this is an odd request and this may not be the most appropriate forum, but I don't know where else to start. I am troubleshooting a water quality issue with my residential water well. I want a simple and inexpensive setup that allows me to see what is going on as far down as the bottom of the casing, which is supposed to be 25 feet. The water level is at least 40 feet down so I am not expecting this setup to go under water. The inside diameter of the steel casing is 5 and 5/8 inches. I am unsure of what the bore diameter is. One constraint is that I must work around the water pipe, which is about 1.5 inches wide. So, I need a camera that is no more than 4 inches in diameter. Much smaller is desired in case the pipe in the well is not perfectly straight. I figured I could lower the camera with the lens facing down for the first view. Then after raising the camera out of the well, I could turn it around so it's facing upward for the second trip down (this is so I have a view of the space around the bottom of the casing). The questions: What type of camera could I use in this situation? Would an IP camera work 25+ feet down a steel casing? Do they make wired cameras that can use a wire 30+ feet long? The images don't need to be video in case someone comes up with a method using photos. I was thinking video would be more viable since they are often smaller than a "still" camera. I'm open to all ideas that will allow me to do this inexpensively. FYI: I could get a well drilling contractor to do it but that would cost me $1200. Thank you! Lunchietey 0 Posted July 7, 2015 Try finding a plumbers pipe inspection camera. Some are REALLY pricey but some not so bad and will contain everything in one package. You didn't mention a budget or if you need to do this more than once or regularly so the above suggestion may not help. You can always hire a drain inspection camera which will give great image(they even have little white LEDs to light up what you're looking at AND you can submerge it and see whats happening all the way down. If you're having water quality issues maybe get your water tested and see if it's something you can actually resolve? Or do you mean water delivery issues(poor flow/suction)? Chantz 0 Posted July 7, 2015 Survtech, that looks like just what I need - and thanks for the link to the info. Lunchietey, I am on a tight budget, so what Survtech suggested should do it. I did get my water tested and that's why I want to see into the well - so I can see if there is leeching from surface runoff. In addition to coliform, I'm getting sand and discoloration in the water.
