TML 0 Posted July 23, 2015 I built a new house last year, located in a very rural area. I asked for prewiring for 8 cameras. 6 outside and 2 inside. Now I have no idea what cable was installed. The security company that wired my home has closed permenently and I've only just started to search for camera systems. However, I see such things as IP and TVL and then wireless cameras. Unsure what to buy! Are IP and TVL the same? I was about to purchase a $1500 Lorex system but I'm not sure if the IP cameras are what I need... I opened the faceplates inside my home and I see a yellow and white cable with an open end. Clueless I know! Thank you so much for any words of wisdom. There are ip cameras and then there are cameras that run over coax cable that you are referring to as TVL(because most analong cameras are rated by tvl...Regardless of the cable you want HD cameras that at minimum 720p or 1080p...you dont want low resolution analog like 700tvl or 960h systems. Ip cameras require ethernet cable...post an image of your cable. Even if you have coax there are HD solutions...
