help needed - camera port

Recommended Posts

before my brain explodes. My first ip cctv system so i am an ip virgin

i am installing 2 x ip cameras through a switcher to existing hvr (6 analogue camera already installed).

I install cameras and connect up

switcher sees only one camera

ip camera searcher software sees one camera

on pc I change camera ip address, log in on new camera address and see picture. go on hvr and search for camera, set it up and all is well

redo cat5 cable plugs on second camera, switcher now sees both cameras, pc camera searcher now sees both cameras. change second camera ip address, set up hvr settings for second camera. camera now works well.

however while doing this i find I have lost the first camera (which was working). My feeling is I inadvertantly changed the first camera setting while setting up the second.

What I am finding is when using ip camera searcher on pc the ip address matched the hvr settings but the port does not match. and whatever I do the hvr will not match the camera port.

Does the port even matter?

can I use the same port number for both cameras?

or is there some other conflict i am not aware of (disconnecting the working camera makes no difference)

tia

Does each camera and the HVR have a unique, fixed IP address?

Port is most definitely important.

You can change the port the camera uses in the camera settings so that it matches the HVR.

Log into each camera and look for your network configuration settings

In a Hikvision Camera look under the Configuration>Basic Configuration>Network>Port

In a Dahua it is under Setup>Network>Connection.

You can use the same port for each camera but they must have a unique IP address. Turn off DHCP in you cameras to ensure they have a fixed IP address.
