bees 0 Posted September 7, 2015 Hi, new to forum. Did a quick search but couldn't find an answer to my questions. I'm installing a site on a farm tomorrow, and it's the first time I'm using AHD and video baluns. System is Provision ISR AHD 1.3mp 720p cameras and DVR. Baluns are HD baluns. The site will have 7 cameras in one barn, and 4 in another. Both barns are about 40m from the office. What I plan on doing, is running RG59 cabling (power & coax), to all cameras, bring it together at the corner of the barn closest to the office, giving them power there, and then running the video baluns from there over about 50m CAT5 to the office. Questions: Is this accepted and will it work, or should I rather run the video baluns directly to the camereas without coax inbetween? If I can mix them, can I run about 60m coax, and then extend it with a 50m video balun setup? How many baluns can I safely run on 1 Cat5 cable? 2/3/4? I plan on installing extra cabling just in case anyway. Won't run any power through Cat5. Thanks.
Securame 0 Posted September 7, 2015 It will (might) work. But if I were you, I would try the setup first, before puting it up. You need just one pair (2 wires) for each video feed, so you can use a UTP cable for up to 4 video feeds. Also, use good cable. You are going to install it tomorrow? Then you should have the materials already, and you should have already tried it in advance.
the toss 0 Posted September 7, 2015 It will work & is indeed the most logical way of doing it given you are using AHD
bees 0 Posted September 19, 2015 Thanks for the replies, installed last week without any issues. Longest run was 80m coax with 60m cat5 and image is very good.
