Recommendation for decent 16 channel system?

Recommended Posts

What would you recommend for a decent system in the $2,500-4,000 price range? I'm looking for a new camera system for our business. I'd prefer to be as cheap as possible but I want a system that's pretty decent so we could read a license plate if someone backs up to our dock. I've seen images from 3MP cameras that seem to have no problem capturing a plate number while in motiong. If I'm wrong let me know.

Excellent Android app is a must for viewing from mobile, and I'd like to be able to view from a browser.

I'd like 16 channel with 16 cameras. I'd want the ability to use cat5e cable POE, and do not want to use BNC cables.

8 cameras will be outdoor, 8 indoor. I'd prefer to have the 8 outdoor be dome style so the cables aren't exposed for easy cutting by a vandal. I have no issue with the indoor being dome or bullet, unless there's a reason one is better than the other.

Aside from my disappointing experiences with Q-see and Swann over the last several years, I'm a newb when it comes to camera systems so keep that in mind before getting super technical with me with abbreviations, etc I may not know.

Something I've been considering is the AvertX 16 channel system on Costco's site, item # 973178 but it seems expensive compared to other brands for what you're getting. I've also read mixed reviews on their mobile app, and with that system only including 10 cams I'm looking at even more cost to get the additional 6 I need.

Any comments would be great. Please suggest specific packages if you can or even buying the NVR, cams, and cable separately is fine. We have no problem doing the installation ourselves.

If forum rules don't allow you to post it here, then please feel free to PM it to me. If you're a dealer, I also welcome dealers contact me directly by PM.

You may not buy 4MP cameras. You may buy 720P or 1080P, fit for easy/and smooth decoding, more frames per second, less heat, or less CPU loading, etc.

720P cameras are using the same image sensor as 4MP cameras. That means, 4MP just simply increased the number of pixels, simply the same fidelity of true resolution as 720P. But they can charge a lot more than 720P. That's the secret of trade.

OP please ignore the china scammer sunnykim, he needs to stop butting in on every post i comment on the mods have asked him to stop.

I think its odd that he tells you what YOU may or many not do. 4mp provides a much greater pixel per inch count...anyone who says otherwise is lying. Go to youtube an see for yourself. All this nonsense about cpu load and heat makes me laugh..the camera is designed for this load. The image sensors are not the same. One produces a 720p image, the other a 4mp image...

A video is worth a million words. He can rant and rave otherwise but the videos prove he is lying. Personal experience from anyone here who has installed 720p and 1080p cameras also proves he is lying.

Guess he thinks Americans are to stupid to see the difference.

To date he has never posted a VIDEO indicating that 720p is the SAME as 1080 on ALL ip cameras which is a complete fabrication.

After doing some more research I was leaning toward buying that (the top one, Q-see you mentioned) with 8 additional dome cams and am going to place that order now. It will come out to a little over 3k for the package and like you said you get that assurance when you buy from Costco. And yeah, the info that other person posted is totally wrong. LOL! Thanks for the help Boogie.
