jisaac 0 Posted April 13, 2006 Does anyone know of high res low light camcorder? I am talking like a professional camcorder that is capable of seeing in low light like the panasonic 484's. This is for a Private detective around here who has deep pockets and wants a good self contained low light camera/recorder. Anyone know of any good ones? KrCCTV 0 Posted April 13, 2006 Was my experience (last time I used a camcorder - a few years ago when VHS-C was still pretty much the standard) that camcorders blew away cctv cameras of that day when it came to low-light performance (so... in-other-words... any would do - buy based on other desireable features). I remember when I got in to this business that I was really suprised that they were so much better than "pro" cctv cameras in low-light performance. Anyway... can't say that's still the case but will be interested in others' thoughts.
CSG 0 Posted April 13, 2006 A few years ago Sony had a camcorder that could see through peoples clothes. They pulled it off the market when this unique feature received unwanted publicity. I forgot what was unique to the cam that enabled this to happen.
CollinR 0 Posted April 13, 2006 A few years ago Sony had a camcorder that could see through peoples clothes. They pulled it off the market when this unique feature received unwanted publicity. I forgot what was unique to the cam that enabled this to happen. Nothing unique, it's the combination of filters installed (1 inside and 1 consumer added) allowed only IR to pass to the CCDs. IR willl shoot through most plastic fibers like nylon and spandex. You also need a huge IR light source so it was pretty limited to outside daytime use. Also the quality was piss poor not nearely the privacy concern it was made out to be. Basically it worked well only on those tan-through bathing suits. MrSquid 0 Posted April 13, 2006 I am guessing this is not against forum rules because this is not CCTV related. If I am wrong, my apologies. Check out: http://www.maxmax.com/aXRayIRCameras.htm for info on modified cameras. "We have specially modified Brand New Sony Camcorders that have full NiteShot capability with all shutter speed and aperture modes working. In an effort to stop people from using the Niteshot feature in daylight situations, Sony limits the minimum size of the aperture when in Niteshot mode on every currently produced Handicams camcorder to prevent voyeurs."
