karaboo3 0 Posted April 13, 2006 Does anyone know if I can use a GV800 DVR Card and my Panasonic PTZ WV-CW864A ? I am dieing to get this working. If It will not work does anyone know of a DVR card that supports this cam. I am using a RS485 and it works fine with my 3X Sony mini PTZ but I cannot get it working with the new Panasonic? ANY Help would be great. Thx Hopeless and waiting Kara
G22 0 Posted April 14, 2006 I was under the impression that you needed a Panasonic System Controller (ie. WV-CU360C, WV-CU161C, etc) that uses PS-DATA to be able to control the Panasonic PTZ cams. I could be wrong though. Panasonic DVR's would support them for sure though. Big $$$ though for the pretty blue/silver one.
Metal Shaper Man 0 Posted April 14, 2006 There is a converter listed on the Panasonic site. I've been trying to locate it but can't remember where I found it on that site. If I remember right, it only converted or inabled the Panasonic DVR's to opperate Pelco and some other brands of PTZ.s I will keep on trying to find the link and post it in hopes it will help. 470 0 Posted April 14, 2006 panasonic PTZ's work fine with geo cards. 1. you have to set the menu in the panasonic to the correct settings (and the dip switches on the rear). ill scan in hte manual pages re dip switches if you like ??
karaboo3 0 Posted April 14, 2006 I have the Panasonic instructions and forgive me for being a newbie so please go easy. I have the cam set so that the unit # is 1, baud is 9600, data bit is 8, parity check is none, xon/xoff not used, there are 2 banks of dip switches the small one is used for RS-485 termination and half duplex ( 2 line ) i have these all in on position. The next larger switch says "For Panasonic Protocol " I have it set for 1-96* all off but last dip # 8 this says setting should be made on the RS485 setup menu. When I turn the cam on it displays the setting properties. The data connector on the cam is a 5 wire phone trpe connector (RJ 11) I am using a female jack with the wires from my RS485 punched down to the Red and Orange of the male jack on the cam says " Data transimssion, the yellow and green say data reception. I have the GV800 set to P-version protocol and the camera selected is pelco dome because i cannot select the right panasonic cam. Thanks again all for tips and help. Hopeless lady. cctv_down_under 0 Posted April 18, 2006 The 232 connection is for short runs, your 485 is the data that tells the system via voltage variance which way to turn the camera, you will need to have the 485 mode running if you are using 485 to transmit the data and 232 mode will need to be off, most dvr's have what is known as a 232 to 485 converter this is in some cases an additional component, from thsi component you can have several wires, most commonly three a Transmit Positve A transmit Negative and a ground wire, the other teminals you have on the camera are usually Transmit (TX) out positive and Transmit out negative and they usually loop out to the next PTZ in the series, some PTZ's require you to terminate the end of the run, therefore if you have two cameras you unterminate the frst one and from the TX out + and the TX out - you continue the wires to the next ptz, the termination can be in the software onboard the firmaware of the device or in some brands it is also a requirement to have a terminating resister at the last PTZ. The PTZ number is the physical address of the camera, this means camera 1 needs dip 1 and camera two needs dip 2 so the signal knows where to terminate it's data. If you are trying to control the camera with P protocol, I am not sure about Panasonic but I thought P was for Pelco protocol, both P and D protocols work at different baud rates so be carefull, the other thing is that if you are trying to send Pelco protocol to the Pana cam, you need to switch the Pana cam into Pelco mode first (assuming it can be done). Pana have soem weird things with remote programming so perhaps there is a need for more wires, the best way to check is to put a mulitmeter at the end of the 485 signal, try moving the direction and see if the voltage changes, if there is no change then the signal is not getting there. I have never used Pana's so very sorry i can not help, the easiest way for you to test is going to be lending a pana keyboard first
