PSA: Dahua 888888 account gets locked while NVR idle, solved

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

Just a PSA, should anyone experience the same issue: We had a weird issue with our Dahua NVR4208-8P locking itself out of the 888888/admin account almost every evening, right around the same time we were settling down for the night and watching some netflix/youtube/etc. This event also triggers the internal buzzer, so it became very annoying very fast.

A couple factory resets (and no luck) later, we were still having the issue. We were absolutely positive it was not misconfigured PSS/DMSS, as we had already created accounts specific to those, and more often than not, it was the local 888888 account that was getting invalid attempts, getting locked out, etc.

Anyhow, turns out the IR remote we use for our xbox one (which happens to be our netflix/youtube device of choice) is on the same frequency as what Dahua is using. The xbox remote will trigger several keys on the NVR, including the submit/Enter button... Moving the Dahua away from the xbox was all we had to do to solve it. Oy.

tl;dr: Xbox one remote is on the same frequency as the Dahua remote.

Firmware version?

Telnet access?

TTL2RS232 adapter and remove config via u-boot
