portable WiFi hotspot router with an Axis video server

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I'm trying to set up my axis camera and axis video server with a portable WiFi hotspot router in order to send emails when the camera is trigger and takes a picture.

My current set up is:

  • Portable hotspot router with data sim
Axis M2014-E video server connected to router via ethernet cable

I've set up the SMTP settings on the video server to use gmail in order to send the email:

  • mail server: smtp.gmail.com
    server port: 465
    use authentication: checked
    user name: 'my gmail address'
    password: 'my gmail password'
    smtp Authentication: 'checked'
    Weakest method allowed: login

but everytime I try to send a test email, I'm getting back 'Failed'.

I've looked in the video server system log and its showing:

'Could not start smtp session with server smtp.gmail.com:456:Connection timed out'

'Failed to send mail'

So no luck with the emails....

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to do this before or has this kind of set up themselves?

I'm thinking that the connection timed out means that the data connection on the router might not be strong enough but I'm a bit confused by that if its the case because I can easily send a quick email from my phone fromm the same location, on the same network as the data sim being used in the hotspot router.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

These might be silly questions but we need to start somewhere.

I assume this camera is running DHCP? If not, did you enter a DNS server IP under the Advanced IP setting page? Make sure a Gateway is entered if the camera is running static.

Almost sounds like it can't resolve the domain names.

This looks like a fairly new model but some of the older version of firmware did not do email serving very well. Are you running the latest version of firmware 5.50.6?
